AKK Gas Pipeline Crosses River Niger as NNPC Records 100% Crude Oil Pipeline Availability in June
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has announced a major breakthrough in the ongoing Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline project, confirming that the pipeline has successfully crossed the River Niger—one of its most complex engineering challenges.
Speaking during his keynote address at the 24th Nigeria Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week in Abuja, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, hailed the development as a critical milestone that keeps the $2.8 billion project on track for completion by the fourth quarter of 2025.
“This feat was achieved through effective and innovative contract reengineering, coupled with industry-wide collaboration,” Ojulari said, stressing that the AKK project remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s gas infrastructure expansion plan.

June 2025 Marks Unprecedented Pipeline Stability
In another significant development, Ojulari disclosed that for the first time in years, Nigeria recorded 100% availability of its crude oil pipelines throughout June 2025. He attributed this success to heightened industry-wide security interventions spearheaded by NNPC Ltd.
“This level of stability has not been experienced in recent times. It has positively impacted crude oil output and shows what is possible with sustained collaboration and investment in pipeline protection,” he said.
Investment, Cash Calls, and Industry Confidence
The NNPC boss noted that the company’s consistent fulfillment of its cash-call obligations to Joint Venture partners has played a key role in restoring investor confidence and boosting production levels. He emphasized that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) has equipped NNPC Ltd with the legal and operational tools needed to take the lead in project financing and delivery across the industry.

From Talkshop to Action Hub
Sharing his vision for the future of the NOG conference, Ojulari expressed the hope that it would evolve beyond panel discussions to become a performance-driven platform that celebrates achievements and seals investment deals.
“NOG should move from being just a talkshop to a real engine room for delivering investment commitments and recognizing performance. That’s the next chapter we must open,” he stated.
