Agency Reports Containment of Oil Spill near Egina Field

Nigerian authorities, including the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), are actively working to contain an oil spill that occurred during loading operations at the TotalEnergies-operated Egina field.
The spill was reported on November 15, and while the volume is yet to be confirmed, TotalEnergies has stated that the impact on production at the 200,000 barrel-per-day oilfield is minimal.
The company is collaborating with local authorities to address the incident, providing aerial surveillance, applying dispersant, and considering further cleanup actions.
Oil spills have been a longstanding environmental issue in Nigeria’s Niger River delta region.
