Military Deactivates 50 Illegal Oil Refining Sites Says DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported that troops of Operation Delta Safe conducted operations in the Niger Delta region, destroying 50 illegal oil refining sites, arresting 51 suspects, and eliminating four criminals in the past week.

The operations also led to the recovery of stolen crude oil, illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, and Dual Purpose Kerosene.

Additionally, the troops destroyed various equipment and facilities used in illegal oil activities, including dugout pits, boats, storage tanks, vehicles, cooking ovens, pumping machines, and outboard engines.

One notorious criminal was neutralized, and a locally made pistol was recovered during the operations.

“On Nov. 15, troops with hybrid forces raided suspected drugs peddlers’ hideout in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta and arrested six suspects.

“The maritime component of Operation Delta Safe on Nov. 17, conducted search and rescue operation following a distress call on a missing Cameroonian-flagged motor Fishing Vessel MFV AFKI with registration number UK12 and number AFKI 8432780.

 

“After frantic surveillance, maritime component traced and made contact with the vessel 17 nautical miles off Pennington terminal.

“The vessel was recovered with two foreign crew members onboard,” he said.

In the South East, troops of Operation UDO KA neutralized six criminals, apprehended 14 suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN), and rescued two kidnapped hostages.

The operations resulted in the recovery of weapons, including a pump-action gun, a double-barrel gun, a locally made pistol, and ammunition.

Additionally, a motorcycle and two mobile phones were seized. All recovered items, arrested suspects, and rescued hostages were handed over to relevant authorities for further action.
