2,000 Students to Receive Recycled Tyre School Sandals Thanks to NNPC/FIRST E&P Grant
In a transformative CSR initiative, FREEE Impact Foundation has secured a ₦25 million grant from the NNPC Limited/FIRST E&P Development Company Joint Venture to provide eco-friendly sandals to 2,000 public school pupils in Southwest Nigeria.
The grant, awarded during the 2025 “Impact FIRST” Awards in Lagos, supports FREEE Impact Foundation’s Elevate Programme, which repurposes used tyres into durable school sandals. This initiative not only promotes sustainable waste management but also improves learning conditions for underserved children.
FREEE Recycle Managing Director, Ifedolapo Runsewe, expressed gratitude for the grant. “We are proud to operate at the intersection of sustainability and social impact. This grant will help us distribute sandals to 2,000 pupils, improving both their wellbeing and the environment,” she said.
The project highlights how circular economy practices can have dual impact—tackling environmental issues and advancing educational equity. Emmanuel Etomi of FIRST E&P praised the role of NGOs like FREEE, stating that true transformation is achieved through collaborative efforts.
NNPC’s Loveday Minanengiyeofori reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to sustainable social development. “Through the Impact FIRST Grant, we’re enabling organizations that drive real, community-level change,” he said.
